Atchafalaya Honey

About Allen Bee Farms

Born in Plaquemine, Louisiana (USA), Avery Allen grew up in southern Louisiana around the largest natural swamp in North America, the Atchafalaya Basin. Early on, knowing that bees collected nectar from flowers to make honey, he watched as Bees would collect around soda cans during the winter, and wondered where the bees went after they sucked up all of the syrup from the cans and how they produced honey from the sticky syrup.

He started to observe the bees more closely, found hives in hollow trees, and watched as bees swarmed creating new hives in and around the swampy area near his home.  Avery built his first producing beehive at the age of  (XXX), and continued to learn about beekeeping and honey production.  Avery now has beehives located in the Atchafalaya Basin, where the bees are free to collect nectar from the native flora devoid of pesticides and chemicals which are found in the communities and chemical plants that line the Mississippi and Atchafalaya rivers.   This makes the honey more pure and devoid of those pesticides that collect on the flora in and around the communities.  Avery has moved from being the hobbyist, to a full production operation and is the owner and operator of Allen Bee Farms, located in Plaquemine, Louisiana.

"I love working my bees, keeping the hives healthy, and harvesting the honey from my hives.  I use only time and gravity to filter and harvest my honey.  It is never heated or artificially filtered", said Avery.
